Custom Study option (iOS)

Study memory items (or other chapters) only (outside of your Anki schedule) (iOS)

It is possible to study flashcards of certain decks or with certain tags by using the custom study option. Based on you choice, a certain amount of flashcards will be selected which you can study until you've review them all to your satisfaction.

Studying a specific deck

You can use the custom study option on any (sub)deck. As an example I will use the "Approaches" deck of the A320 Family flashcards.

Select the deck you want to study, in this case approaches

Click on the settings icon on the bottom right, and in the menu that opens select "Custom Study".

Select "Preview all cards with certain tags". If you plan to review a very large deck (for example all A320 flashcards), you can increase the max cards to gather to for example "1000" to make sure each card is included. In this example, the "Approaches" deck only includes 23 cards, so even though you've selected 1000, only 23 cards will be displayed. Make sure that "any" and "none" are displayed (if the deck you've selected does not contain any tags, it will display "no tags available"). Click "Done" on the top right to continue.

Studying a specific tag (e.g. Memory Items)

You can also use the custom study option to study a specific tag. As an example I will use the "[MEM]" tag (memory items) of the A320 Family flashcards.

Select the ATPL deck in order to make sure all cards with your chosen tag are included.

Then follow the same steps as for studying a specific deck (described above) until you reach the page below. Because in this case we want to study all cards with the [MEM] tag, we click on "Include cards with tag".

That opens the following page. In our case we select [MEM] and then "< Custom Study" on the top left to return to the previous page.

Now the Custom Study page looks like this. Click "Done" on the top right to continue.

Reviewing the Custom Study deck

Your created custom study deck will automatically open. Review the cards until none are left. The principle is the same as when studying in your normal schedule. Once you've clicked "Easy", the card will disappear from your custom study session.

Do note that creating a custom study session removes the selected flashcards from your 'normal' decks, so as long as these flashcards are in the custom study deck, they won't appear when you do your normal schedule studying until you've cleared them in your custom study. Therefore make sure that if you haven't finished your custom study session, delete the custom study deck to make the cards return to the original deck. You will not delete the cards itself!
