Getting started (AnkiDroid)

How to install and setup Anki (AnkiDroid)

AnkiDroid is the free Anki Android app, allowing you to study flashcards on your Android tablet or phone.

IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE UPDATED FLASHCARDS, NEVER RENAME A DECK OR MOVE A FLASHCARD TO ANOTHER DECK!

Create an Anki account

This step is only required if you intend to use Anki in your browser or using an app, but I recommend to create an account anyway. You can use the "sign-up" link in the menu on the left of this page.

Download and install Ankidroid on your device

Once installed, open the app. Note that the app in this example is in dark mode, yours might appear a little different but the functions are the same.

Link Anki on your iPhone/iPad to your AnkiWeb account (recommended!)

If you have access to a PC/laptop, I highly recommend to first install Anki on your PC (see "Getting started (PC)"), import the flashcard decks you want to study on there and then synchronize your account on the Ankidroid app.

Click "Sync from AnkiWeb"

Fill in your login details

If the display below shows up, click "AnkiWeb" to synchronize your flashcards.

Importing your first deck

If you have just installed the app, click "Get Started"

Optional: if you haven't imported flashcards on the Anki app on PC, you can still link AnkiDroid to your AnkiWeb account (if you have created one) by clicking the synchronize icon in the top middle, the click "Log in", fill in your details and click "login". When asked which collection to keep, click "AnkiWeb" and "Replace".

In order to add your first flashcard deck to AnkiDroid, click the "+" icon in the bottom middle, then click "Get shared decks"

The browser will open. Type "ATPL Knowledge" or "Airbus A320" in the search bar and click "Search".

Click on "ATPL Knowledge" or "Airbus A320 Family FCOM/FCTM"

Now scroll to the bottom and click "Download"

AnkiDroid will now start downloading the flashcard deck

When finished, click "Add":

Now make sure the Import options screen looks the same as below, then click "Import" on the top right.

When the import is finished, the following screen shows up. Click the arrow on the top left to go back to the start page.

Now your AnkiDroid should look like this (if you have installed both Knowledge as the Airbus flashcard decks).

Congratulations on importing your first Anki flashcard deck!

Please make sure to check the other "How to" posts in order to get the most out of your Anki experience!

Happy studying!
